Basic face shapes and earring styles
To begin with, you need to decide on your face shape. One way to do this is to pull your hair back so that your face and ears are visible and to get a friend to take a digital photo. Then print it out as big as your printer will allow so that you have it as a reference.
Once you have the printout, compare your face shape with those following. As well as a basic description of each shape, we have included a few famous people with the same shape to help you decide and compare. We have also included a few suggestions as to the style of earring most suited to each facial style.
Your forehead or brow is generally wider than your chin and you have a soft, rounded hair line. The length of your face Length will be about 1.25% more than its width. Two famous personalities with this facial style include Kate Hudson and Beyonce Knowles
Most suitable design styles: This facial style is best suited for soft shapes, teardrops, ovals, pearls and studs are the most effective but, you should experiment as many other styles could well suit your unique features.
As the name suggests, a round face is one where length and width are almost the same with a well rounded chin. If you look at celebrities like Kate Winslet, Drew Barrymore, Cameron Diaz or Penelope Cruz, you’ll see that your facial style is similar to theirs.
Most suitable design styles: You need to elongate your round features so long, slim and curved lines are the perfect earring style. Some styles that would suit your features include drop earrings, chain earrings and even striking angular studs. A word of advice, steer clear large, bulky pieces, hoop earrings and smaller stud earrings.
Heart shaped facial features
You have a narrow jaw line that widens at the cheekbones and possibly the temples. Whilst the upper half of your face will be close to that of the oval face, you will have a pointed chin. Well known people with these facial features include Sophie Dahl, Reese Witherspoon and Scarlett Johansson
Most suitable design styles: Unlike your face, you need earrings that are broader at the bottom than the top. Triangular and pyramid shapes are perfect but tear drop or oval styles will also complement your features. You avoid earrings that come to point at their lower end.
You have a broad face with strong, accentuated features and could have an angular jaw and a straight hair line. Demmi Moore, Salma Hayek and Gwyneth Paltrow are some of the personalities with your facial features.
Most suitable design styles: Because of your broad features and angular face, you should go for large, angular styled earrings that will make your face seem wider.
Your face is very similar to the square features previously described but is longer than it is wide. Celebs with these feature include Angelina Jolie and Sarah Jessica Parker.
Most suitable design styles: large, hanging earrings are perfect for your face. Plain studs could also work well as they tend to extend your eyes horizontally
