    Classic Necklace Styles

    Belcher chain

A belcher chain is a great classic chain style for yourself or as a gift. It is typically described as having links which are wider in thickness. In general the links are round. A small, dainty belcher chain can look great if you have a small frame.

A large belcher chain can make a real statement and really add that something extra to any outfit. Because of it’s classic style, it is something you can wear for many years to come.

    Heavy Fob chain

A fob chain is generally described as a chain which has a bar feature and worn as the center piece of the chain. You can also get this type of chain in a bracelet which can be a lovely add on gift if you are buying the fob chain for a gift.

A heavy fob chain, like the belcher chain is a great piece of jewellery you can wear everyday and to special occasions. By investing in a quality chain, you won’t be without a quality necklace that will match just about any outfit.

    Name necklaces

Name necklaces are dainty and pretty neck chains which make the perfect gift for someone special. They are normally characterised by a thin chain that leads to a first name which is the centerpiece of the necklace. You can generally buy them made to order and often they are encrusted with diamonds or gemstones if you want something with a little more bling.

    Dainty pendant necklaces

A dainty thin silver or gold chain with a small pearl pendant or gemstone pendant attached to it can look elegant and sophisticated whether you are going out for lunch or to a formal dinner. If you don’t want something that is too loud, a thin chain with a small pendant can really add something extra to your outfit without being too much.

    Long boho style necklaces

Long chains have been popular for some time. In gold and silver, these chains look great with a stunning medium to large sized pendant attached at the centre or a cluster of smaller charms put together. You can wear more than one of these at a time, just make sure one is slightly shorter than the other in order to create the right look.

    Lengths

Choosing the length of your necklace can be difficult. Like diamond rings, necklaces are something that we may wear for many, many years to come, so getting the length right is very important.

The princess length is the most common necklace length. It is designed to hang just below the collarbone and is usually 18 inches long. This length in general will always look good with an array of clothes, from high necks to plunging v-necklines.

The longer length, draping necklaces are very popular at the moment and will also suit an array of different clothing if you find the princess length too high.

  • Watch

    Anti-Magnetic Swiss Watch

Its history dates back to 1846 where experiments done to create anti-magnetic watches were first recorded. It was Vacheron Constatin, a premier watch-making company who had first done the study and experimentation. However it was only decades later until it was actualized. They were able to develop a watch that can endure magnetic fields because they used non-magnetic metals. They used the metal Palladium for their balance wheel, balance spring and lever shaft making these watches still able to function even within or after high magnetism.

Charles Edouard Guillame was the one who discovered Invar and Elinvar, nope they are not islands, but nickel based alloys that are able to withstand magnetic fields allowing a watch to remain accurate. Other alloy-based materials also include Glucydur and Nivarox which were widely used by watchmakers in the 1950’s.

Aside from using alloys, another method of producing non-magnetic watches is by using a highly conductive material to house the movement inside a case.

As mentioned earlier it was Vacheron Constantin that first developed these watches; in 1915 they introduced the first anti-magnetic pocket watch. It was then followed by Tissot’s non-magnetic wristwatch in 1920, and then the first anti-magnetic chronograph by Vacheron Constantin in 1954. The company Jaeger Lecoultre improved the chronograph’s design and improved its resistance by doubling-up the case.

Today an international standard which is the ISO 764 dictates that this type of watch should be able to sustain itself from direct current magnetic field exposure of 4,800 Ampere per meter. It also states that it should maintain its accuracy to give or take 30 seconds/day as calculated before the test for it pass as a magnetic-resistant watch. An additional soft-iron clasp is also used to cover the movement to ensure that magnetic fields are not formed inside the watch.

Get Value Out of Any Watch Buy

Take Care of It Properly When Not Using It

When your watch is strapped around your wrist you will be aware of its presence and will be able to look after it suitably. However, when you are not wearing it, such as during the night, you should ensure that it is safe and protected by keeping it somewhere where it will not get damaged.

One of the best places to keep it is in a drawer near to your bed, but make sure that the inside of the drawer is dry and that there are no other hard objects inside it like other items of jewellery. These can scratch the watch if you are not careful.

Use it How it Was Intended to Be Used

Some watches are designed to be used in sporting situations. Take Rotary Divers watches, for example. These were built to be used by divers and can withstand large amounts of pressure.

Other models such as certain Adidas watches are built to be used whilst playing sports, and as such it is safe to use them in this way.

However, some watches are not built to be used for sports, gardening or any other activities where they may otherwise get damaged. To protect your watch and get more value from it, make sure that you only use it how it was meant to be used.

    Get it Checked Up Regularly

The money you spend on getting your watch checked by a professional can save you more in the long run because it will end up lasting longer. Take your watch to a pro who can give it a clean and check that everything is in working order. If there are any problems they can fix the watch and make sure that the problems do not become worse, and then you can enjoy your watch for longer.

    Maintaining Pearl Jewelry

    Stay away from acids

If you have ever seen the grammar school science experiment involving an egg and vinegar, you’ll remember that the acid in the vinegar dissolved the shell and left a naked egg. That is because the egg shell is made of calcium. Your pearls are made of calcium carbonate too. That is why you want to avoid acids. When we think of acid, we usually picture something dangerous, however, we use acidic substances every day. In addition to vinegar, acids in our homes can include chlorine and citrus fruits. Our sweat also has an acidic pH which is why, “Pearls are the last thing you should put on and the first thing to take off,” is advice that has been handed down for generations. Avoid overnight wearing and always make sure to wipe the pearls off with a soft cloth before storing.

    Washing your pearls

Occasionally, you may need to wash your pearls. The best way to wash pearls is with a soft cotton cloth dampened with lukewarm distilled water. Tap water has chlorine which can damage your pearls. Gently rub the pearls until they are clean. If just water won’t clean them, you can use a natural soap as well. Stay away from steam, detergents and jewelry cleaners that do not specifically say they are safe for pearls. If the pearls are in a necklace, make sure not to pull or stretch the string in between, especially if they are not individually knotted. This can cause wear to the string and cause the strands to break. No one wants to crawl around searching for their pearls.

    How to store your pearls

The best investment to store pearls is a soft cloth of silk, satin, or cotton. These can usually be found at your jewelers. Avoid storing your pearls in plastic as the chemicals released over time can destroy your pearls. You also want to store each of your pearl items individually. The nacre of pearls is hard, but in comparison to the metals and other gemstones in jewelry, it is quite soft and can be easily scratched. Do not store pearls in a dry space or safety deposit box – pearls need moisture. Of course, the best way to keep them hydrated is to wear them!

    Be selective with certain pieces

Because pearls are a softer gem, you’ll want to make sure that you are limiting the use of rings and bracelets. Not only are you more likely to scratch a pearl ring or bracelet, you are also more likely to soil them. Save your rings and bracelets for special occasions. Earrings and necklaces are much better for daily wear, however, make sure that you are not wearing them when you apply makeup, hair products, or perfume.

    Inspections

The best way to take care of your pearls is to make sure to check them at regular intervals. Make sure strands holding the pearls are still strong and supple. Make sure that pearls in settings are not loose. For stranded pearls, you should have them restrung by a jeweler every few years. Especially if you wear them a lot. Individually knotting them is more expensive but it pays off in the end. Having pearls on necklaces and bracelets individually knotted is more secure in case you do have a break. Better to lose one pearl than to lose all of them.

    Rhodium Jewelry Plating

Rhodium is nothing but a silver – white substance, and it is considered as a metamorphosis metal on the periodic table. It belongs to the family of platinum along with ruthenium and osmium. It is also considered as a rare and precious metal.

Depending on the market value, Rhodium is often the most costly and precious metals; an ounce is usually priced between $2500 to $3000, but the price can vary widely. Rhodium is an extremely durable metal and resistant to scratches and tarnish and its characteristics are enormously reflective to highlight.

Rhodium plating and how it is done?

Rhodium plating which is also known as rhodium flashing is a technique that costs a fine layer of the metal over platinum, white gold, and silver Jewellery to enhance their shine and performance. This technique of plating is temporary and might wear off in time. The durability depends on the usage and the thickness of the original plating. For instance, a wedding ring which is used daily might require another plate in 2 – 3 years. If the plating which was performed initially was thin, extremely, an extra plating might be needed in the next few months to 1 year.

Jewellery plating solutions and re- plating them don’t consume time and most professional jewelers provide this service.

    The thickness of Rhodium plating

Rhodium plating should ideally be from 0.75 to 1.5 microns. That is, the coating must be the thickness of your hair, which is approximately hundred microns.

    The cost of Rhodium plating.

To ensure quality plating at an increased thickness might cost $150 to $250 dollars. Thicker plating which might wear off in a few months might cost you around $30 to $40 dollars.

Tips for buying Rhodium plated Jewellery

Jewellery sellers and retailers are not always upfront about this metal treatment on their pieces – this is especially fact – based for sellers that specialize in cheap white gold and silver pieces of rhodium plated metal pieces such as copper and nickel. If you buy a piece accidentally that is treated with a thin layer, then you can notice it shine is dulled and becoming discolored. So to avoid such mistakes, buy a Jewellery piece that has a thick coating of rhodium.

  • Diamond

    Diamond Certification

Each entity grades and describes gemstones differently and sometimes the difference is significant. Several laboratories exist and it’s really important to learn which are dependable and reliable, and those are not.

Because precious stone certificates aren’t created equal, the purchase price and value of diamond jewelry are not similar across different qualifications. Make sure that you purchase diamonds with a qualification from an extremely reputable grading entity and that you review the precious stone thoroughly before purchase.

What To Watch Out For In A Diamond Certification

    Consistency
With regards to comparing laboratory grading entities, it’s more important to look for regularity rather than strictness of grading.

For instance, the GIA won’t grade a precious stone the same manner the IGI rates a gem. The stability of the color and Clearness grades and occasionally the Trim grades is only as effective as the certifying lab’s reputation. But if one laboratory regularly provides single Clarity class greater than another laboratory, that laboratory is in no way less “authentic.”

To highlight the value of this concern, take Color levels for example. We recommend keeping an H color or better when placing a precious stone in an environment such as this one. It may seem you have found the ideal gemstone with an H color diamond with an IGI license. But when you have it home, you understand the precious stone has a yellowish tint. It is because the gemstone is very much like an I color by GIA certification and the IGI just offers a relatively weak certificate.

Instead of simply comparing marks between accreditations, look for persistence within the entity’s grading decisions.

Different documentation labs give different results. Every laboratory has its quirks. Some are looser in grading Color, while some are inconsistent with Quality. Some labs will usually update specific Colors and variations, while others prefer particular agreements of inclusions.

Smart diamonds companies utilize this knowledge, gained from mailing thousands of gemstones to different labs each month to increase their results. Knowing which labs are dependable and constant can help you avoid investing in a gemstone worth significantly less than what the license is saying to be true.

    Gemstone grading is subjective

All precious stone grading is subjective and unlike popular belief there is not really a central company that mathematically identifies just what a “G” Color is or what an “SI1” Quality looks like. If one laboratory regularly says that one color quality is a “G” while another laboratory will regularly be calling that same color “H”, it’s correctly suitable and reasonable as long as they do so consistently.

It is important to note that even though an entity is regular in its grading, it generally does not indicate the entity is trustworthy and reliable. Buying a precious stone with an unreliable certificate at an unrealistic price is not right even if the entity constantly grades diamond jewelry this way because you aren’t getting the worthiness for the purchase price you’re paying.

    GIA Certified Loose Diamonds

The GIA (Gemological Institute of America) is the most well respected and renowned precious stone grading entity. They are really incredibly constant and give the greatest satisfaction when purchasing any diamonds. GIA does not have any financial stake in the sales of the diamonds and evaluates gemstones on a number of attributes and elements, including:

    Girdle thickness
Cut level (Excellent, Very Good, Good, While)
Color level (which range from D to J)
    Clarity quality (IF, VVS1, VVS2, VS1, VS2, SI1, SI2)
    Measurements (in millimeters)
Slicing style and precious stone shape
    Carat weight
    Table %
    Depth %
    Culet size
    Symmetry
    Proportion diagram
    Polish grade
Diamond plot demonstrating all blemishes and inclusions
    Fluorescence grade
    Laser beam inscription (if appropriate)
    Security features

All in all, GIA certified loose diamonds have a reputation for great Color and Clearness, the most subjective scales, and most rigorous evaluation. Due to GIA’s high reputation, proven reliability and background, we recommend only buying GIA certified loose diamonds.

Why buy GIA Certified Loose Diamonds?

Each precious stone is licensed and priced in line with the four “C’s” (karat, color, quality, and trim). But perhaps you have never pondered who levels the precious stone a sales rep shows you? Quite simply, how will you know that a diamond said to be a G color and VS1 clearness is really a G color, VS1 quality diamond?

Let`s say that you get a precious stone graded as 0.76 karats, G color and VS1 quality. To make sure that our grading of the diamonds is current, you choose to take it to ten different precious stone graders. You will likely discover that the ten appraisers offer you at least six different evaluations, which might differ from the statement at of others. Does this imply that they were wrong, and sold the diamonds to you in an unethical or deceptive manner? Maybe five our evaluation was valid and the other jewelers were providing you with incorrect information. How will you compare precious stone prices objectively if one precious stone can receive so many gradings?

Now you almost certainly understand what an average shopper must go through in search of that special stone. Isn’t there an improved and simpler way to do this? YES, IT EXISTS! Look for a gemstone that is certified, not by simply anyone, but by the GIA (Gemological Institute of America). All diamonds experts and jewelers know what a “GIA certificate” is. The GIA’s grading is undeniably regarded throughout the diamond industry as the utmost accurate and impartial judgment as it pertains to grading gemstones.
